Hand Turkey Thanksgiving Craft
Since we live far from family and don’t travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to send our immediate family a Thanksgiving card from Luca. I decided to go with something handmade and after some internet searching and brainstorming, I came up with the not so original but super cute hand-turkey.
I chose the colors I wanted to use — brown for the turkey and red, orange and yellow for the feathers — and traced Luca’s hand on a brown piece of paper. Tracing his hand proved to be more difficult than I expected and instead of trying to get him to sit still for more than one trace, I picked the best hand trace cut-out (there were quite a few attempts) and made the rest of the cut-outs with it.
I glued the hands together with the brown hand first as the body and then the feathers stacked on top of one another. A little orange triangle for the beak, red oval for the snood (I thought this was called a gobbler for 30 years until I began this post and Googled the term for correctness LOL), and a black dot for the eye.
I brought the turkey in to show Ry before I added the eye, beak and snood and he couldn’t tell it was a turkey. Apparently the facial additions are so important in distinguishing between a bunch of hands glued together and a turkey. Who knew?!
I cut out some hearts to use for the note portion, addressed each one and glued the hearts to the center of the turkey.
I also added the year to the back in case they wanted to keep the card for years to come.
It was a simple and fun way to send love for a holiday that our family won’t spend with Luca and I hope they love them as much as we loved making them!
